Reason Circle Privacy Policy

This policy covers cases, feedback and exported packets in the private development editions for Mac, iPhone, Android and Windows. Optional speech recognition belongs to the private Mac edition.

Effective and last updated October 16, 2026.

At a glance

  • Teaching records are encrypted locally. Storage keys and recovery options differ by device.
  • Student packets omit designated private fields. Roles change the layout and do not control who can open an unlocked workspace.
  • Supported transcription stays on the device. Exported packets and argument files are unencrypted.

Local teaching records

Cases, argument maps, sources, logic exercises, rehearsal records, comments and workshop work are encrypted locally. On Mac the key is held in the login Keychain. Mac encrypted backups need the original workspace key; preserve a secure system backup including Keychain. On iPhone the Keychain key is device-bound and does not migrate. Android protects its key with Android Keystore; Windows protects its key for the signed-in Windows account. These editions do not fall back to readable storage if key protection fails. Android and Windows retain a previous encrypted save without a dedicated restore button, and offer passphrase-encrypted backup archives. Manage exported copies and backup passphrases separately.

Roles and private feedback

Individual, Team and Referee are working layouts, not authenticated accounts. Anyone using an unlocked workspace may be able to open other views. Student packets omit fields designated as private coaching and referee observations. Material placed in shared fields remains shared; inspect the complete export preview.

Speech and recordings

On Mac, transcription starts after a deliberate action and the required permissions and consent confirmation. It requires supported on-device recognition with no cloud fallback. Microphone audio is not saved by this module. Selected recordings are read without being copied into the workspace. Recognition can be incomplete or wrong; review and attribute the text yourself. iPhone, Android and Windows use typed or pasted transcripts, without audio capture or transcription.

Exports and connections

Text packets, copied content, generated code and argument exchange files are unencrypted. You choose their destination. The app sends no analytics or assistant requests, has no student account, and does not synchronize automatically. Removing local work does not remove exported copies.

Messages you send us

If you write to us through the contact form or by email, we receive your name, email address and message and use them only to reply and to improve the app. The website privacy policy explains how long we keep these messages. Please leave passwords, access keys and other people’s private records out of your message.

Your requests

Use the storage, export and deletion options described above for this app. Removing local material does not remove copies you exported or shared. Information held by a service you connect is controlled by them, as described above. To ask about information you have sent us, or to have it deleted, contact us as above. We respond within 30 days. California residents have these rights under California law, and we extend them to everyone.

Changes to this policy

If a future version changes what the app stores or sends, we will update this page before that version is released and change the date above.
