About the press
Books from below.
Gathered Commons Press is an independent press in California’s Central Valley.

We publish fiction, poetry, and edited collections by writers whose work stays close to lives shaped by history, place, and power. We want those stories at the center of the page, especially the ones rooted in the Valley and other communities too often treated as material for someone else’s story.
We are building a home for local voices and for writers whose books are in conversation with the places and people they come from. The Canny Valley is one beginning: a collection shaped by writers with meaningful ties to California’s Central Valley.
We care about who gets heard, who does the work, and what happens to the land and water we share. Those questions shape the press’s books and the work we hope to bring to readers in the years ahead.
Our academic list includes pamphlets for study and organizing. Alongside the books, we publish software for work, writing, games, music, and civic life.
Gathered Commons Press is a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association.
